BHARAT

Well, it started as just sort of a “hmm that could be fun” idea, but now it’s looking more and more like a reality. I may be going to India this winter! I need to save up a whoooole lot of money so I can afford the 1300 dollar airfare, but if I work my butt off this summer and during the fall I should be fine.

Here’s hoping!

Mazedar Janmdin Kya Hai

Waise, mera janmdin kal hoga aur mujhe kya sochna chahiye malum nahi hai. Aaj maine mere pita ko dekhe…mujhe yah nahi pasand tha aur main jaldi ghar ke andaar gayi.

That was some pretty blah Hindi right there, but that’s not the point. I will be 23 years old in a little under an hour and a half. How do I feel? Well, it’s been a sort of eventful year. Around this time a year ago, I think I had just found out about my acceptance into the U of M. Everything changed, pretty much. I started doing what I loved. My Parents finally split. We got a dog.

I’m so glad I decided to transfer, school has practically made my life worth living. Along with that, I’ve made some really good new girlfriends and  gotten closer with some old friends. I went to New York again, and I’ve become way more confident than I was before.

I can hold a simple conversation in Hindi, and I learned some scraps of Arabic from a failed relationship (so not a total loss, really!) I was the first choice to work as a research assistant for someone I really admire. I feel like someday I could actually hold my own in academia.

This year I have faced the lowest lows and the highest highs of my short existence on this earth. I am thankful for every moment, and I’m looking forward to what my 23rd year holds.

To my friends, I love each and every one of you with all my heart.
