क्या हुआ??

Well, I missed about a week of episodes of Saara Akaash, unfortunately. However, through the magic of DVR this will never happen again.

So I have no idea what happened since the last time I watched, but the first episode I watched this week involved Monica and Vikram in Pakistan saving a pop concert from a terrorist’s bomb. I guess Vikram was supposed to get married to Sanjana but suddenly had to rush off to Pakistan where he and Monica finally profess their love for each other. Sanjana figures this out and tries to slit her wrists (but she cuts across the road, not down the street…what a failure). Monica, in an act of selfless idiocy tells Vikram that if he really loves her, he’ll marry Sanjana. Wtf, that is obviously the perfect solution! Vikram agrees.

But then we see Sanjana go into an office and make contact with one of the terrorists in Pakistan. SO SANJANA IS A SPY!! OUT OF NOWHERE!!

Mean husband Varun is actually super hot…but he totally kidnapped Vikram’s little brother Rahul and took him to an amusement park and then gave him a bag of chocolates. So that’s sounds pretty awesome, right? BUT IT’S NOT. Because Varun poisoned one of the chocolates and is going to make Rahul eat them ONE. BY. ONE. *roll credits* Oh man, I can’t wait for the next episode.

So I’ve taken to watching this really terrible Indian soap opera on the AZN network called Sara Akash. From what I gather it’s about a bunch of Air Force pilots whose lives are filled with impossible drama.

Basically Monika is in love with Vikram, but her terrible mother for some reason (I guess I missed that episode) does not approve of their relationship and I guess at one point Monika did something to terribly offend her mother (who may not actually be her mother but a stepmother? maybe?) and “gave her future” to stepmother lady. Sooo evil stepmother fixes a marriage between Monika and this horrible asshole named Karan who has a big ol’ unibrow and a perpetual sneer on his grumpy face. He has some sort of vendetta against Monika, so he’s really excited that he gets to shaadi her and make her life a living hell by being an emotionally abusive and controlling buttface. Monika isn’t really a fan, but since Vikram is in love with Sanjana she doesn’t care…because if she can’t be with Vikram, then she might as well marry a buttface, right?  Her whole family know that this is pretty much the stupidest idea ever, except for stepmom who believes she’s doing a great thing by keeping Monika away from Vikram.

But Vikram has his own problems, as we find out when Sanjana tells Vikram she totally doesn’t love him and doesn’t want to be part of his life. Luckily, Monika and her brother Saurav convince Sanjana to meet with Vikram once because he’s totally got a nice butt, or something. So she agrees to, but as she’s walking to the meeting spot, this dude approaches her and gets all up in her bidness. Vikram is like “hell naw” and goes over and kicks the butts out of up-in-bidness dude. Then we find out that U.I.B dude is Sanjana’s HUSBAND. But it’s okay, because Varun (U.I.B.) is totally a jerk and abusive and stuff. However he now totally wants to kill Vikram.

So now Vikram has a total of two people who hate him…well, and Monika’s stepmom. Poor Vikram. Oh yeah, forgot to point out that Karan, Monika’s dumb husband-to-be totally hates Vikram for a completely unknown reason. Must have been something in last season. Oh man, now Karan is totally trying to molest Monika in her driveway and her parents saw AND THERE ARE LOTS OF DRAMATIC CLOSEUPS AND MUSICAL OVERTURES THAT MEAN SOMETHING TOTALLY IMPORTANT AND SCANDALOUS IS HAPPENING. Though, they do the same thing when characters greet each other, I think.  I think Karan might have just got on stepmom’s shitlist. Let’s hope this leads to a cancellation of the engagement. Go Monika Go!

So let’s see, what else. Oh yeah, there’s Ayesha and this other dude whose name starts with a J…Jatin I think. They’re in love and crap and basically have absolutely no conflict, though the DRAMATIC MUSIC AND CLOSEUPS try to convince you differently. Oh look…they’re saying goodbye GUNSHOTS! JATIN FALLS BACKWARDS AGAINST THE CAR!! IS HE SHOT IS HE SHOT IS HE….he has a gunshot ringtone on his cellphone and he’s just being a silly douchebag. So then his girlfriend is pissed and decides to call the engagement off…so silly douchebag decides that inviting all his friends to her house is a good way to make it up to her. Well, I guess it was because all of a sudden she’s not mad anymore. And they laaaugh and he sneakily gives her a peck on the cheek and she is SO SCANDALIZED. But will the parents agree to their union? OH GOD OH GOD DRAMATIC MUSIC WE DON’T KNOW…yes they will, and they do and they laaaaugh oh so happy.

And then Karan makes Monika fast for Karva Chauth and she passes out and Saurav finds a diary entry where Monika professes her love for Vikram and Monika is like “ha ha ha! I love him as a friend! ha ha ha! I love Karan though” Which we all know is totally ridiculous.

And with all this, there is a storyline in the background of all sorts of Air Force drama. Apparently this one dude was leaking secrets and DRAMATIC MUSIC AND CLOSEUPS.

But that doesn’t matter because Jatin and Ayesha are having another lover’s tiff…oh look, he’s pretending to die again because that’s totally funny and girls love that. Try it sometime, men! Pretend you just got stabbed by a hobo, wait until your girlfriend starts crying and then yell “GOTCHA!” She’ll seriously just say “you’re mad!” and act like she’s mad but not really be. And then you’ll laaaaugh.

OH NO! NEW SCANDAL! Varun escaped from the hospital and smashed the heck out of Sanjana’s house, but she doesn’t want to call the police because she’s dumb. But Sanjana! VARUN TO PAGAL HAI!!!!

I will leave you all with this for now. The drama is just overwhelming.

*DRAMATIC MUSIC AND CLOSEUPS*

I’ve kind of thought of Minnesota as the kindly aunt of America. We’re known as the nice people, we’re so patient (sometimes painfully so), but we still have our “cool” aspects. (You know, like when you find out that sweet little aunt Nancy used to like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath) We’ve had bad things happen. I remember when there were some really bad floods in this area. Our basement actually flooded when I was three, and I tried to go swimming…and I attempted to help clean up the water by sponging it up in one corner and then squeezing out my sponge in another corner…not so affective.

But all in all, Minnesota has avoided any huge society-altering disasters. I’ve almost taken it for granted, when it says that severe whether is on the radar, I know that it will either pass us over or just be lots of light and noise and water…which will end with no real consequence. But then yesterday…actually as soon as I turned the TV on, there was a sudden newsflash. Well, now everyone knows about it, pretty much…the 35W bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River.

This is not just some bridge that people drive across sometimes. For me, this is the way I would take to school every time I drove. I would go this way to visit a ton of different friends. Basically, whenever I wanted to go anywhere north of downtown…this is the bridge I would go over. Two more days later in the morning or the afternoon and I could have been on it. But not only is this a disaster for the people who went down with the bridge, but it’s going to require serious daily changes for over 100 thousand people in this city.

But what’s the craziest thing for me…is to see Minnesota being talked about all over the world. People barely know about Minnesota in other places! I mean, everyone thinks we’re all from Fargo (WRONG STATE) or we at least talk like Fargo (maybe a little, but not completely!). I mean, what are we famous for? The Mall of America and Prince? I know there’s a ton more that we should be famous for, like the Mayo clinc, etc. But I’m sure most people around the country would mostly know about the Mall of America and Prince.  But now there are people in other countries talking about Minneapolis, and talking about this bridge that had become so familiar to me.

Surreal, really.

Well, I started taking belly dancing lessons this summer. It’s been about a month and a half or so, and I’m just loving it. I feel so much more healthy afterwards and I can isolate all sorts of muscles.

I’m even going to try to compete in the belly dancing competition at the Renaissance Festival in August. The cool thing is…my teacher actually said she’d be willing to meet up before class and help me work on a routine. I hope that’s not cheating! She also said I’ll be able to move up to level two in the fall!! YAY.

I’m having soooo much fun. And I look pretty hot, too. haha
